We are ending 2024, and I am as optimistic as ever about the quality of PT students. I want to give a shout-out to a number of men and women who will be blessing their profession and they all come from different places!
Thank you to instructor Lizzie Johnson from Boston, Lewis from Chicago, Alessia from New Jersey, Hannah from Michigan, Sean from New York, Rachael from Gloucester, and Becca from New York, I have been blessed by you all.
Thank you!
It has always been a wonderful experience to meet new and budding Physical Therapists students. Natalie Prisco all the way from Bridgewater Massachusetts is my latest PT assistant dawning a kind and gentle spirit about her. Natalie will do well under the guidance of Physical therapists Gwen and Jen of the MGHIHP.
------------------------------------------------------
Back at it again in PT with my East and West Coast connections Alexia from New York, and Kelsey from California. It was really good to work with both of them again.
They were under the very personable supervision of instructor Gwen Larson who is always a pleasure to be around!
Under the supervision of Gwen Larson, a physical therapist at MGHIHP, our session was a workout! The difference this time she was surrounded by 4 female students who were wonderful to work with—Gabby from Massachusetts, Hunter from Connecticut, Emily from Massachusetts, and Caitlin from Rhode Island.
Hope to see and work with them again.
God most certainly works in mysterious ways. I had a scheduled water therapy session at Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown and my wife, along with my daughter Britney were accompaying me there. We ran into Alexis M who was my PT lab instructor at Boston University a little more than a week ago. It was wonderful to see her again!
Another part of Adaptive Sports at Spaulding is the water therapy program. For me anyway it's the closest therapy to me actually walking again. I can walk from one side of the pool to the other without anyone actually holding onto my side. For lack of a better term it makes me feel normal again! A special thank you to Kathleen who made me blow bubbles with 30 years of very knowledgeable experience and friendly Katie from adaptive sports.
This is my 3rd visit to Spaulding outpatient in Braintree, and everyone from the secretaries to the entire staff have been so friendly and welcoming! The reason I wanted to go there was because I was told by my former trainer at the Quincy YMCA Cheryl Rosa that she knew of an Occupational therapist at Spaulding outpatient named Donna, and people were raving about her. Plus it's alot closer to my home in Quincy. With over 30 years of expierence and I love someone who will push you, Donna has most certainly earned those acalades! I feel a difference already. I look forward to my next visit!
Today starts up my very anticipated and ongoing Physical recovery. I cant tell you how excited I am to work with Gwen again as she is very good at her profession and a very special person.

I am just as excited to be working with my two new students who are my Philadelphia connections, Amanda and Sharon. They are two lovely ladies from the city of brotherly love! Can't wait to see them again next week! Welcome to Boston Amanda and Sharon..
Between the well trained teachers and eager to learn students, it's an absolute pleasure to be at the MGHIHP for my ongoing recovery!
I have been blessed to have Physical therapy students Victor and Tony last week and Haley from upstate New York and Natalie from Bridgewater, Massachusetts this week. All 4 students are under the the instruction of a seasoned and well mannered professional, Gwen.

Her perseverance and determination are inspiring to me. I asked her about school and she said, John all I want to do is help people. She has been a true Godsend to me and just today she had me work on 2 different machines for working on my calf and quad muscles. There is no doubt in my mind, heart, and soul that she will become an exceptional Physical therapist one day but in Gods time! Being a great wife and a new expecting mother, her husband, and family have a lot to be thankful to God for.

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to share my journey with all the instructors and staff at Sargent college. Having been diagnosed with an almost fatal Severe Traumatic Brain Injury in 2020 it was great to give back to all aspiring Physical therapy students.
Zoe K, Kiara M, Julia C, Alex T,
Lihan S, Rachel S, Amanda C, and Lab instructor Alexis M with a charming and bubbly nature about her. Thank you to all the staff who were very kind and professional. Look forward to doing it all over again Wednesday night at Sargent college with a new group of Physical therapy students. It feels great to give back.
Thank you Boston University. I am blessed!
It was great to be back at Boston University to help aspiring Physical therapy students. Claire and I were greeted warmly again by Professor Lisa Brown. This time the students I was paired up with were all women! My wife asked me jokingly, how did it feel to be surrounded by all women? I laughed.

It was very rewarding to me that they asked me and Claire numerous questions and learned things that are not always taught in books. Ever since my fall down 14 stairs in 2020, I have developed a sincere heart of thankfulness to Medical professionals, Physical, Occupational, and Speech therapists and now want to give back to all students who are pursuing a career in these fields.I would not be where I am today if it were not for these simply amazing people! Thanks again to knowledgeable and bubbly Lab instructor Alexis for instructing the group and to students Stephanie G, Jamie K, Erin F, Erika L, Nora C, and Abbey K. It was an absolute pleasure to be of service to you all!
Thank you.
It always has been a very convenient trip to make whenever I, my wife, or 3 kids get sick or have an injury. It sure beats the long hours waiting at the hospital especially when it is only a 12 - 15 minute drive from my house.

I have been blessed by the presence of Lee once again and for the first time nurse Kelly from Weymouth. She was so kind and had a very caring personality. I could tell that she was very knowledgeable as a nurse. Just a pleasure to deal with. Keep up the great work girls Lee, and Kelly. Thank you both! Hope to see you whenever there is an injury or ailment in the family.
The students that study at the MGHIHP are very well equipped to become the aspiring Physical therapists they want to be. With teachers like Professor Jane and Gwen, they are all in Great hands!
Was an absolute pleasure to work with 1st year students Alexia from New York and Kelsey from California. Two very polite and smart young ladies
This has been the 2nd time I have gone to Tamara and she is just exceptional at what she does. My back has never felt this good and pain-free in 40 years! I loved seeing my friend from Needham Massachusetts Kyley who is really pursuing her Physicl therapy dreams and schooling. She has 2 exeptional teachers in Tamara and Naseem! Thank you again Tamara!
Last Tuesday January 10th, 2023 started a new year with a lot of personal expectations of myself. It felt so good to be back at my second home, Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown Massachusetts. It’s been about a year since I’ve done water therapy in Spaulding’s beautiful pool.
I can’t tell you all just how valuable it’s been to my ongoing recovery. It gave me the hope that one day, I can walk without my quad cane just like I have been able to do in the pool. My current 2 instructors from adaptive sports Megan, and Kathleen are very friendly and knowledgeable women. They both make it easier to accept my current physical limitations as I travel down this hard and at times difficult road of recovery. Thank you, Megan, and Kelly! God continues to bless me, Claire, and Britney once again, with your presence!
Its wonderful to be back at Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown. Occupational Therapist Erin, has been very warm, friendly, professional, and caring. The 3 weeks I've been blessed to work with her I can tell that she is very knowledgeable at her profession and I look forward to our next appointment.
Today, Friday December 9th 2022, I received an early Christmas gift and it was like a dream come true for me. I left Boston Medical Center Hospital after being unconscious for 3 weeks from my life threating fall in January of 2020. I was then transferred to world renowned Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown Massachusetts's. It was there the GRACE of almighty God first revealed itself to me!
It was a long day in coming but today around noontime and with much joy in my heart it was finally here! With much love, and appreciation John Broderick

My heart has been over bursting with with thankfulness and gratitude ever since my God has allowed me to continue living and be a husband and a father to 3 beautiful children. I am extremely grateful to my wife Claire, my 3 children Britney, Brianna and Robert first, and these two wonderful and friendly ladies, Abagail and Alana! They are both the ones who set the foundation for my recovery. Abagail was my very first Physical therapist and Alana was my very first Occupational therapist. I was able to write about the deep impact in detail that they have had in my life. Its been an absolute honor to present them both with the book "GRACE ". I've been totally blessed for both of them to see the progress I have made since I was in Abagail's and Alana's care back in early 2020. A Hoyer lift was my best friend then! They are now able to see the fruits of their labor!
Thank you Abagail and Alana.
The MGHIP in Charlestown Massachusetts has been an absolute blessing to me and my recovery.
I am honored to be back with Physical Therapist and teacher Gwen again and her two wonderful students Adrianna and Sarah my Jersey and California connection. For the first time I was able to walk with a single point cane which I never thought I would be able to do especially at this point in my recovery!
Its another milestone with Gwen,
It was a very sad day for me as this Tuesday is our last scheduled session with Gwen and her wonderful students. I have to say that I have been totally blessed to have worked with Adrianna, Sarah and Taylor from Whitman, Massachusetts. They have poised themselves to become wonderful Physical therapists especially with a teacher like Gwen and under the leadership of Jane.. From the bottom of my heart, Thank you all!
Unfortunately I stumbled and fell forward at the Quincy MA YMCA. 911 had to be called with Fire and Ambulance showing up quickly. I am very thankful to Boston University students Kristen and Florence who run the walking program at the Quincy YMCA indoor track. If it were not for the both of them, things could have been much, much worse. I didn't know that Kristen was a former EMT. Thank you again Kristen and Florence and Boston University!
Went to Beth Israel hospital in Milton Ma and everything checked out just fine. With the price of eggs haven gone up so high, the back of my head must be worth a small fortune! LOL! Thank you again Alexia!
This fall will not set me back or deter me on my God given road to recovery. It has only strengthened my resolve, determinence, and perseverance. LETS GO!
Gives even more credence to my new eBook "MIRACLE AT LIGHTHOUSE!"
It's been an absolute Godsend to have these 4TH year PT Boston University students encouraging me on my road to recovery and healing. Kristen and Florence are two special ladies with a warm and friendly personality. I am very much looking forward to working with these outstanding students. Thank you Boston University for once again producing such wonderful girls and aspiring Physical Therapists!
I cant say enough about working with Gwen again, and her two new students A.J. and Angelo. They both have roots deep in the heart of Texas! They'll both make great PTs one day especially with PT instructor Gwen. Just cany say enough about the MGH Institute of Health Professionals. My physical recovery continues to advance because of women like Jane who has dedicated her life to helping others.
I have met many wonderful people from many different places such as Taiwan, California, Vermont, and even New York. We may have our baseball differences but Its an absolute pleasure to have Lauren as part of my recovery team. She is so welcoming, a wonderful Physical therapist with a great personality. Claire said to me many times, she's good John. Her assistant Megan was so sweet as well.
Making my long road to recovery possible in advancing both physically and mentally is a young, energetic and passionate woman, Hannah Miles. A special heartfelt thank you goes out to 4 wonderful and talented women employees of the Partners Program.
Sheryl is like having your own personal trainer along with Sasha, Molly, and Heather. They have all helped me with my spirit of determination and perseverance.
I truly don't know where I would be without them. Thank you girls for all you have done. We're not done yet. So LET'S GO!
CONVENIENT MD
I love the idea that I am able to go to a place like Convenient MD in Quincy instead of a crowded hospital or an Urgent Care facility.
When we arrived, my wife and I were met by a very personable receptionist and were seen within minutes. Dr. Carson was so nice and bubbly, that I would without a doubt, go there again.

Chelsea was such a blessing to me as I could only hear on my right side. She cleaned out both of my ears as the professional that she is, and now I lost my selective hearing. Just ask my wife! LOL.
Was an absolute pleasure working with the 40 or so 1st-year students at the MGH Institute of Health Professionals. Just over 2 years out from the incident and at the tender age of 61, it was great to see all the young and future aspiring Occupational Therapists. What a blessing for me to be instructed by Laura and Yao. Would do it again 1000 times over!
Just over 2 years out from my Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, I am now climbing the stairs that lead to the second floor at the MGH Institute of Health Professionals in Charlestown. With Maggie by my side and a gait belt on, Anna observes and takes time intervals. Looking forward to climbing the next set of stairs all the way to the top of the 2nd floor. Thank you, Maggie and Anna!
Thank you to Dawn and Bob of the Spaulding Rehab Brace clinic. They were so professional taking my older brace I had when I was first admitted to Spaulding IN 2020 and hinged the ankle and trimmed it down. I now can walk with it a lot easier and faster with the modification. So much so that I set a new records for climbing stairs and speed at Physical Therapy.
Your both a blessing!
I have been absolutely blessed to be starting up another Physical therapy session with Naseem and 2 of her wonderful students Marion, and Ben. They have been an absolute joy to work with and be around. Looking forward to the 2 new students next week.
I couldn't be more pleased by interacting with Trudy at the assessing phase of my Occupational Therapy. She's wonderful to talk to. Trudy is studying for her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy at MGH.
It was a pleasure to meet Kylie who is also studying for her Master's degree in Occupational therapy at MGH. She's in a noble profession to serve with a bubbly personality to help others as her father and my good and Godly friend George does.
MGH and their students continue to be an intricate part of my life and Physical recovery just like Peyton and Pramuk. I can't tell you just how much they inspire me. Naseem has been off the charts pushing me safely to always do better. Her personality is very pleasant and infectious.
Thank you Boston University for your Physical Therapy program and students.
They have represented your University well!
Boston University's finest!
Katie and Allie have just been a joy to be around!
Thank you to all the welcoming staff at the Quincy YMCA
A special thank-you to Occupational therapist Pauline and all of her wonderful students and amazing women. I'll miss you all. I will also miss Naseem who has been simply inspirational to me in so many ways along with Abbey, Harqun, Sophie, and Erin. It's been a pleasure to work with all of you ladies.
Almost a year and a half after leaving my 2nd rehabilitation facility New Bridge on the Charles in Dedham, I'm still getting accustomed to home life. My wife and 3 children have and are still adapting to our "NEW NORMAL" if you will. At times it can be challenging for everyone. I am constantly trying to get better physically and have even joined the Quincy YMCA which has been such a blessing. It's only about a 15-minute drive from our home and the people are just so kind and friendly.
As soon as you come into the front welcoming area the receptionists are very friendly. Cheryl who is on the 2nd floor has been very helpful to me. She has been at the YMCA in Quincy for some time now. They should erect a statue in her honor! She's almost like having a personal trainer. There's so much good equipment there for a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor like me. Between going to Spaulding Adaptive Sports in Charlestown, and riding the 3 wheel bikes, and twice a week attending the YMCA in Quincy along with doctors appointments, it most definitely can become hectic. We're all still trying to get used to all the changes in our schedules.
One thing the fall hasn't taken away is my desire to help others. I used to broadcast on Christian radio station WEZE 590 AM THE WORD. The hope was to help people with any of lives Hurts, Habits, or Hang-ups through the ministry of Celebrate Recovery. There's even a listing of meetings and times I have posted on this Website. Just click on the RESOURCES tab to learn more. Being a former advanced trained leader of Celebrate Recovery a ministry that was in 42 different countries and in 30,000 churches worldwide at that time, was a blessing.
I am working hard to help those who have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury and their families like mine. I have put together a Podcast on this Website entitled, "OUR NEW NORMALS". The 1st episode will start in May. You can listen to the presentation I gave to the Massachusetts Brain Injury Association which I have posted today. Just click on the OUR NEW NORMALS PODCAST tab to listen and learn more.
I know that I only speak for myself and my family, so I want to give a sincere shout-out to the wonderful team at Spaulding Adaptive Sports. You have all been so gentle and kind to me and my family. We look forward weather permitting, to the journey and friendships that we have and will develop. A special and warm thank you (left to right) to, Hannah, Tabitha, Shannon, Rachel, Heather, and Mike.
You all make a hard situation a lot easier. Even from the lips of my Lord Jesus, HE said, "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve". Be proud of what you all do helping me and my family navigate through this hard and most difficult journey.
As a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor, I can no longer do a lot of the simple things that I once did. I didn't think twice about taking a shower, getting dressed, bending over to pick something up, simply walking to the corner store, shaking hands with friends, or mowing the grass. I now know just how blessed I used to be and just how much I took all of those things for granted. You don't know how special a gift you possess being able to function normally until you have had it all stripped away as I have. Spaulding is more than a Rehab Hospital, it's a place of true hope. Its also the place where God changed my life and set me on a path you won't believe!
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown will always hold a very special place in my heart. The people who work there are just like family to me. From Physical therapy with Elise and Dan to Occupational therapy with Jennifer. Thank you to Amber for guiding me in Water aerobics and instructing my family which was very helpful. To Kerry for sharing her warm smile and personality with me and my family. Rachel has been a sweetheart to me and I enjoyed pulling an innocent prank on her while cycling! She makes it fun! I never thought I would be able to ride a bike ever again but with the very special equipment and people at Spaulding Adaptive Sports, the sky is truly the limit for me!
